IEC International Standard Led by Cosin Soalr Officially Released

On January 12, the international standard IEC 62862-4-2, *Solar thermal electric plants – Part 4-2: Heliostat field control system of solar tower plants*, led by Cosin Solar Technology Co.,Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Cosin Solar”), was officially released. Its Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) received 100% approval votes from 11 countries, achieving unanimous passage.

This standard is the world’s first product standard specifically addressing the heliostat field control system of solar tower plants. Under the overall guidance and professional management of the China Electricity Council, the standard was jointly led by Cosin Solar and China Datang Corporation Science and Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. The convenor of the drafting group was Jin Jianxiang, Chairman and Chief Scientist of Cosin Solar. The drafting process took four years to complete, incorporating the expertise of experts from multiple countries, including China, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Japan, Morocco, the United States, Portugal, and Sweden. It stands as a significant achievement of international collaboration and technical consensus.

The standard systematically specifies technical requirements and corresponding testing methods for the overall architecture, general requirements, data acquisition, heliostat field control, safety protection, communication, clock synchronization, human-machine interface, data storage, and more. It provides authoritative international guidance for the design, verification, and performance optimization of heliostat field control systems in tower solar thermal power plants, filling a gap in international technical standards for this field.

This standard is the third IEC international standard led and released by China in the field of solar thermal power generation. It not only reflects China’s growing international influence and voice in this domain but also provides robust standard-based support for advancing China’s advanced tower solar thermal technologies, equipment, and engineering services globally. It further enables China to participate in and lead the high-quality development of the global clean energy sector.

Simultaneously, the release of this standard marks another key achievement by Cosin Solar in promoting industry standardization. The company has long been committed to the research of core concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies and the development of standard systems. To date, Cosin Solar has led the drafting of two IEC international standards and participated in the development of seven others, covering critical areas such as heliostats, heliostat field control systems, and molten salt. This demonstrates the company’s solid technical expertise and global leadership in the industry.
