Cosin Solar’s Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Project Tops Out Receiver Towers No. 1 and No. 2
2026.10.20

The Cosin Solar Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Project — the world's largest single-unit CSP project — has topped out the concrete shafts of Receiver Towers No. 1 and No. 2, a key milestone that clears the way for receiver installation and other core works.

The Cosin Solar Golmud 350MW Tower CSP Project — the world's largest single-unit CSP project — has topped out the concrete shafts of Receiver Towers No. 1 and No. 2, a key milestone that clears the way for receiver installation and other core works.

Working at high altitude, the Cosin Solar team drew on its engineering management experience and expertise in complex conditions. With scientific planning, precise resource allocation, and close coordination with all participants, the team completed each phase efficiently, achieving the tower capping on schedule.

Construction is now advancing on multiple fronts. Heliostats assembly is underway on site. All four storage tanks are under construction. The main powerhouse has reached the third of five floors, and the front area and office building framework are complete. Key equipment, including molten salt receivers and pressure vessels, has been delivered. The team will next focus on receiver installation, heliostat installation, and the thermal energy storage and exchange system. Strict safety and quality standards will be maintained to ensure grid connection on schedule.

Project Overview

The Project features an innovative “three-tower, one-turbine” design, a 14-hour molten salt thermal energy storage system, and a solar field area of approximately 3.3 million m². Once complete, it is expected to generate about 964 million kWh of clean electricity annually — equivalent to saving 259,500 tons of standard coal and reducing CO₂ emissions by 534,300 tons.

Cosin Solar is responsible for whole-process management, plant process design (excluding the conventional island), core equipment supply, and commissioning and O&M technical guidance. The project deploys Cosin Solar's proprietary technologies, including multi-field energy coordinated control, large-capacity molten salt receiver technology, distributed molten salt energy storage solutions, and an advanced intelligent operation system.

As one of Qinghai Province's 2024 CSP demonstration projects, the plant will provide peak-shaving, ramping, frequency regulation, and reserve services. It will enhance the flexibility and peak supply capacity of Qinghai's grid, promote renewable energy consumption, and support Qinghai's efforts to build a national clean energy industry highland.
